Movie review - Eye in the Sky (2015)

Eye in the Sky (2015) / thriller

Directed by Gavin Hood
Produced by Ged Doherty, Colin Firth, David Lancaster
Written by Guy Hibbert
Starring: Helen Mirren, Aaron Paul, Alan Rickman, Barkhad Abdi, Jeremy Northam, Iain Glen

Good modern wartime political thriller!

This is not 'bang bang' war action film but tense, slow, mature, complex examination of ethical decision-making complexity of the military and political structures. Interesting to watch and thought provoking. Also very good performances by Helen and Alan. My problem was that most of the characters were a bit too stereotypical so they came across flat. I would change a thing or two for sure. However, worth watching. 4-/5

5th blog anniversary!

Summer is officially here (I just can't look outside because it's raining:))! And that's not all! Today it's 5 years since I started to write this blog!

I remember back than how I wanted to write for so long but I haven't had the courage. After some encouragement I found the name - Somewhere I Belong. Not only is the song of Linkin Park (the band that I like ver much) but it also spoke to me. The blog will be my place, somewhere I can go to and just write. In blog name I added Arya and if you're thinking about Arya Stark, you're right. The series has begun that year and she was my favourite character right away. Also name itself is pretty and it kind of became me second name. So the name was born and I started with posts. At first I wrote about many things and had a lot of random stuff published.

Than I focus on red carpet and celebrity looks, etc. but since day one this has been about movies and me expressing my thoughts. Beside film reviews I would like to share with you my opinion on things in movies in future column I'm preparing, called ''Let's talk about movies'' and maybe share with you actors that I noticed and hoping that the future is bright for them... ideas keep popping but with job and 'having a life'... I'm doing the best I can. And don't worry, this won't be the only topic I'll write.

In the future I will definitely try to do things the way I like it. Honestly, I miss more authenticity and real opinions these days. With all due respect to all - but lately I feel so many people are doing similar things (on blogs and in life). And not always for love or the joy of it but for the money or feeling that they are now in(to) fashion, beauty, have a big following, etc. I know things now are working in that way but it was never my intention to just be fashion blogger or something that sells. I feel like real things aren't important because people will only like photos of food, make up and artifical stuff. Real issues are not photogenic... noooo, I won't go there today! ;)

And despite many things have changed in the last 5 years, I'm proud this blog remains independent, clean and not for advertising purposes. Big thanks to everyone who is reading this blog (regularly or just sometimes). And special thanks to people who supported me from day 1 and always have my back. I love you!

Movie review - Dirty Grandpa (2016)

Dirty Grandpa (2016) / comedy

Directed by Dan Mazer

Written by John M. Phillips
Starring: Robert De Niro, Zac Efron, Aubrey Plaza, Zoey Deutch, Julianne Hough, Jason Mantzoukas, Danny Glover, Dermot Mulroney

Crude raunchy overdose!

This comedy is dirty for sure. Clearly not for everyone who is (too) sensitive. I wouldn't say it's actually funny but more like: 'how far will they go and what crazy scene will be next?' Childish, offensive, stereotypical and pointless yet watchable and with good performances from leading acting duo. If you know that from the start you'll probably just enjoy the film. 3-/5

Monday inspiration: dogs

Don't look so surprise and just think about it. Aren't dogs awesome? Of course they are. And we can learn so much from them. They are for sure a source of inspiration for me.

They are enthusiastic, fun, loyal and loving. I always say the world would be better if people had hearts like dogs. They don't care what is your profession, how much money do you make, what are you wearing... they just want your company. And food. :) They don't judge you, they appreciate the little things (a simple word like "walk" can made their day) and they always find a new way to make us laugh. They eyes are pure and don't lie, they can lift your spirit right away and for a moment you can forget everything. And they are soft cuddling buddies. I could go on but you get the point...

And as you know, canines make excellent service companions when trained properly - service dog (assistants to individuals with disabilities), therapy dog, working dog, police dog, etc. I'm always fascinated on what they can do!

Since I was a kid I wanted a dog and we always had one but it was never really just mine. I hope in a next few years my big wish will came true! Paws crossed!

Do you have a dog? Is s(he) sleeping on your lap or wants your atenttion right now? Go ahead: play with the dog and/or pet him.

P.S. Slovenian readers can find some dog quotes here.

Movie review - How to Be Single (2016)

How to Be Single (2016) / romantic comedy

Directed by Christian Ditter
Produced by John Rickard, Dana Fox
Screenplay by Abby Kohn, Marc Silverstein, Dana Fox
Story by Abby Kohn and Marc Silverstein
Based on How to Be Single by Liz Tuccillo

It ends better than it begins.

So this should be a comedy right? Well it's not. More like drama or anti rom-com with a wanna be funny bits. Or maybe I had a laugh or two? I honestly don't remember. Rebel Wilson plays this crazy party girl who supposed to make you laugh but it just feels forced too many times. We have four single ladies in the film, all in a different life situation but relationships between characters are fragmented and you don't feel the connection. Between them or with them individually. Their views on the relationships are given in a artifical way. There isn't a good storytelling there. First half of the film is stereotypical and cheesy but the script and the whole thing gets a little better. Ending was a nice surprise. Acting was ok and overall the movie is light-hearted and watchable. 3/5

Movie review - Eddie the Eagle (2016)

Eddie the Eagle (2016) / biographical sports, drama, comedy

Directed by Dexter Fletcher
Produced by Adam Bohling, David Reid, Rupert Maconick, Valerie Van Galder, Matthew Vaughn
Written by Sean Macaulay and Simon Kelton
Starring: Taron Egerton, Hugh Jackman, Christopher Walken, Iris Berben

Feel-good biography.

This is a solid underdog sports story with a nice touch of humor. Can't disguise with the heart warming sweetness of the film but it has many unnecessary cliches. Taron Egerton gave a knock out performance once again and Hugh Jackman is always cool as a bad ass. The movie is exactly as expected: satisfying enjoyable flick. 3/5

Shades of Blue (season 1)

If you need another idea for good tv series besides The Night Manager, I recommend you Shades of Blue!

This tv series took me by surprise for sure. It's a 13-episode crime drama that stars Jennifer Lopez, Ray Liotta, Drea de Matteo, Warren Kole and others.

PLOT
Harlee Santos (Jennifer Lopez) is an NYPD detective and single mother struggling with financial problems. When she is caught up in an FBI anti-corruption probe, she must choose between doing the right thing for her daughter or covering up for her corrupt police co-workers.

Jennifer Lopez and Ray Liotta are amazing, interesting characters and the show it's really appealing and twisty. You never know what is going to happen next. Ok, it's nothing really new (good crooked police) or sensational but better than I expected. I like it a lot and can't wait for season 2!

Happy World Environment Day 2016

Today is World Environment Day!

WED day was created to raise global awareness to take positive environmental action to protect nature and the planet Earth. This year's theme is "fight against the illegal trade in wildlife” and Angola is the host country. Want to learn more? Read HERE.

I find it scary, sad but mostly upsetting when I see how people are ignorant and arrogant when it comes to nature and environment. Everybody would love to enjoy it's beauty but when you need to do something for it... so many just don't care. What angers me the most is when I hear/see attitude towards nature.  And than they are issues like with trash. I don't understand (and never will) how some people just throw trash wherever they feel like it. So irresponsible. I could go on and on about the attitude but this is not the point. I want to encourage you to do something about it. Small things like this are big things.

Of course you can't do everything but you can start somewhere. In our household we recycle, use reusable shopping bag, turning off the electricity, close water during shampooing, donate old clothes, etc. I try not to consume and buy stuff just because (I use to spend too much money on shitty cosmetics and clothes)... Yesterday we supported recycling' campaign that is organized by Society for the protection of animals Ljubljana DZZŽ (a non-profit, non-governmental, charitable, voluntary organization) and they annually collect old paper this time of the year. Next action like this will be on October 1st (just before World Animal Day). Yesterday they were also selling goodies (also unique ones made by volunteers) and all the money went for a good cause.

And I want to also share this. If you follow me on Instagram you might have noticed that before New Year we planted lemon.

And here are they now, half year later. Cool right? If you have a chance to have your own garden I think you should. Or support local.

Please remember that you can do so much! And it's not enough just to like photos/links/articles that stand for environment but you need to take action! I hope you will. ;)

Movie review - Alice Through the Looking Glass (2016)

Alice Through the Looking Glass (2016) / adventure, fantasy

Directed by James Bobin
Produced by Tim Burton, Joe Roth, Suzanne Todd and Jennifer Todd

Based on Characters by Lewis Carroll
Starring: Johnny Depp, Mia Wasikowska, Anne Hathaway, Rhys Ifans, Helena Bonham Carter, Sacha Baron Cohen, Alan Rickman, Stephen Fry, Michael Sheen, Timothy Spall

Visually stunning but average.

Alice Through the Looking Glass is visually impressive and worth watching just because of that. Also kudos to cinematography, costume, makeup and sound. And performance from Sacha Baron Cohen as Time was terrific (Johnny, Mia and others were also good) BUT... film really should include more of the beloved characters from the first movie. Even bigger issue is that the movie is emotionally empty. You can't love it or hate it. I now it's also for kids but that way it's also too mellow on many occasions. And it lacks fun and enchanting scenes. Still solid enjoyable fantasy entertainment! 3/5

Movie review - Warcraft (2016)

Warcraft (2016) / action, adventure, fantasy

Fantasy fans treat!

First thing first. I don't know the video game so I watch it just as film, without any expectations. I find the film intriguing and had a good time watching it. It's visually appealing, solid story and acting, fast paced, cool action and magic scenes, good presentation of the characters. But because there are so many of them you don't get to know them as well as you should to be emotionally really invested. I think character building and depth could take movie to another level. However enjoyable and worth seeing! 3+/5
