Love doesn't make sense? Neither does this film!
PLOT
The story starts in 1895 and goes all the way up to the present time, all set in New York City. Peter (Colin Farrell) is an orphaned immigrant who was raised by a gangster Pearly (Russell Crowe) to be a thief. While raiding a residence Peter encounters the ailing Beverly (Jessica Brown Findlay), who he falls in love with. Unfortunately for them, fate intervenes and Peter ends up an immortal, strolling the avenues of New York for a century. It's not until he meets Virginia (Jennifer Connelly) and he remembers his purpose.
REVIEW
It's supposed to be enjoyable, beautiful, realistic yet magical and hopelessly romantic film. But sadly falls flat when it comes to execution. Just overall lack of feeling. That is the main negative. I never really connected with the characters and rarely felt actors are truly emotionally invested in the characters. More things that bother me: incoherent, shattered storyline (poor direction), confusing and senseless at many times, bad special effects and CG, dull dialog and the unsteady pace of the plot. The best part of the movie is musical score and cinematography. I wish I could see it for its heart and strong message but that's not enough for a good film. So if you expect a movie that gets deep in your heart, that's not it. 2/5
