Unoriginal but entertaining!
PLOT
Film based on the 2007 best-selling novel Vampire Academy by Richelle Mead. The story follows a 17-year-old Dhampir (half-human half-vampire) guardian-in-training Rose Hathaway (Zoey Deutch) and her best friend royal Moroi (the peaceful, mortal vampires) Lissa Dragomir (Lucy Fry). They live discreetly within our world since they escaped from boarding school St. Vladimir's Academy two years prior to the story. Now they are dragged back to the Academy and rediscovering the dangerous hierarchy within it, along with lies, rumors and secrets.
REVIEW
I sure don't envy current creators of films with vampires and magic topics. Since Harry Potter and Twilight everything slightly similar is compared to them. While this film is harshly criticized I don't think it was that awful. Yes it's week in every single view: plot, script, visuals, predictability, stereotypes, little over the top with humor, etc. But at least it's entertaining. I''ve seen much worse to be honest. Film had a solid pace, explained exactly who everyone is and what was going on. Acting was also decent (Zoey was a strong lead). One of the things I really don't like is that films (in general) had already been set for sequel. Yes there are series of books in this case but they could still wrap it up more elegantly. Film definitely aimed too high. It's just one of those light, to fill the time with film that you're not supposed to take seriously. 3-/5
Fun Fact:
Just now director Mark Waters is celebrating 10-year anniversary since hit comedy Mean Girls came out. On that occasion Kind Campaign is using social media and hashtag #youcansitwithus in an effort to bring an end to girl-on-girl bullying.
