Fantasy adventure film based on the fairy tales Jack the Giant Killer and Jack and the Beanstalk takes us to the village where young farm boy Jack (Nicholas Hoult) lives with his uncle. When he was a kid, he loved the legend of Erik, an ancient king who defeated an army of invading giants from a realm in the sky by controlling them with a magical crown. The same story adored princess Isabelle (Eleanor Tomlinson) who now must marry Lord Roderick (Stanley Tucci) against her will. Story with giants and beans begins when Jack goes into town to sell his horse and monk give him magic beans (as collateral for horse). Of course no one belives the legend it's true, beans get wet and advanture arises. Isabelle is kidnapped by giants so her father, King Brahmwell (Ian McShane) sends the leader of his elite guard Elmont (Ewan McGregor) to fight.
Another family film and for people who still loves fairytales, but unfortunately after seeing it, you'll remember nothing, because it's so pointless. Biggest flaw of this movis is, that it lacks ability to engage with the audience on any meaningful level (or any level at all). Not only everything is predictable, there is nothing more to the story or characters. You're like: 'come on guys, give me something' but sadly is nothing there. Nevertheless watching the movie is not painful, it's dynamics is solid, acting mediocre, some effects are really cool but otherwise nothing overwhelming. 3-/5
