Happy Birthday - Jeremy Irons (66)

Happy 66th Birthday to an excellent actor and one of my favorite, Jeremy Irons!

By now I'm sure you know a lot about him (click here for my last year's birthday post) so I won't repeat myself.

Jeremy is currently very busy shooting films: drama The Man Who Knew Infinity, highly anticipated Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice and biography Race. Next year we'll see him in action drama High-Rise.

Here is also an interview which aired on George Stroumboulopoulos Tonight Late in the end of 2013. Jeremy talked about his son Max, tabloids, music, acting and views on consumption. Interesting!

Happy Birthday Jeremy, best wishes, good roles and stay amazing!

Enjoyable blockbuster!

PLOT
The film takes place in the near future, where an alien race has invaded the Earth and defeated the world's military units. Major William Cage (Tom Cruise) is a military PR officer inexperienced in combat, who is deployed into a combat mission against the aliens. Though Cage is killed in minutes, he finds himself starting over in a time loop, repeating the same mission and being killed again. Each time Cage learns new things but everything gets even clearer when he teams up with Special Forces warrior Rita Vrataski (Emily Blunt).

REVIEW
This is a gripping, well told and well-acted movie with great chemistry between Tom and Emily. Interesting storyline may not be the most original but the great thing is the time-loop premise's ability to remain fresh. Storytelling is dynamic, with the script, the visuals and the action favourable as well. This enjoyable blockbuster is actually surprisingly clever and funny scenes are well placed. The aliens' design were scary looking in a cool way. My main complaint would be the unconvincing final stretch but otherwise a perfect combo for a good blockbuster film: smart, fun and exciting! 4/5

Last week's favorite looks (September 08 - 14)

Already Wednesday and time for my last week's favorite looks (September 08 - 14).

These three event looks were kind of my favorite. I don't love them as much I usually do, but they are nice.

Astrid Berges-Frisbey has made several appearances on the red carpet during Deauville American Film Festival in France. The French beauty has been an ambassador of the brand Chanel so there is no surprise she opted for the brand. At the The November Man premiere she wore a Chanel black tulle gown rendered with gold star sequin embroidery throughout. She styled the look with hair into a loose braid, accenting a complementary gold heart-shaped headband with Chanel pearls draped around her neck.

Heidi Klum steped out in a sexy black Versace dress and Saint Laurent heels while hitting the red carpet at the America’s Got Talent Post Show event held at Radio City Music Hall in New York City.

Vanessa Hudgens at the Point Foundation’s Voices On Point Gala held at the Hyatt Regency Century Plaza in Los Angeles. She opted for flowy white dress, Graziela Gems earrings and ring and a Casato hand cuff.

Jamie Chung keeps on impressing me. She looked subtly sexy at the InStyle 20th anniversary party in a purple cocktail dress with multiple see-through panels. In the middle in white skirt and top with black Rebecca Minkoff pumps at Edun Fashion Show. The last look is from Us Weekly’s Most Stylish New Yorkers of 2014 event. She looked chic in a Kenya top with a Torn by Ronny Kobo skirt.

And two street looks. Gwen Stefani in an Aqua sweater with Dana Rebecca Designs, jeans, sandals and an over-sized clutch in Los Angeles.

Nikki Reed also on the streets of Los Angeles. She looked good in blue pair of jeans, striped sweater, moto leather jacket, she + lo handbag, red pumps, matching lipstick and shades. Stylish, simple and hot but it works every time!

Movie review - Gravity (2013)

Gravity (2013) / drama, sci-fi, thriller

Directed by Alfonso Cuarón
Written by Alfonso Cuarón and Jonás Cuarón
Produced by Alfonso Cuarón David Heyman
Starring: Sandra Bullock, George Clooney, Ed Harris, Paul Sharma, Orto Ignatiussen, Amy Warren, Basher Savage
Trailer: click.

Triumph of style over substance!

PLOT
Astronaut Dr. Ryan Stone (Sandra Bullock) is a brilliant medical engineer on her first shuttle mission with veteran astronaut Matt Kowalsky (George Clooney) in command of his last flight before retiring. But on a seemingly routine spacewalk, disaster strikes. The shuttle is destroyed, leaving them completely alone, tethered to nothing but each other and spiraling out into the blackness while attempting to return to Earth.

REVIEW
Let me get this straight. Yes, it's amazing movie when it comes to many things: cinematography, visual effects and acting. Technically dazzling film for sure but I wouldn't say it's appealing to audience (it's just not relatable). And the story and the script were so weak! Apart from this minor bit, nothing is presented in terms of character development for any protagonists except Ryan. The film won 7 Oscars and other various awards, achieved universal acclaim from critics but part of me thinks this was/is one of the most overrated movies in 2013. Still, worth watching if you appreciate the movie magic! 4/5

Weekly health tip: Quality before quantity!

I'm sure Mondays are not a happy day for most of us but I hope I'll make you feel better with weekly health tip. This time my advice to you is to put quality before quantity!

WHY?
Don't fall into the trap that more is better. It doesn't matter how many pushups you can do in a minute if you're not doing a single one correctly! You also reduce the risk of injuries.

HOW?
Improve and perfect your technique, then later add weight or/and speed. Don't increase your training volume just because you think that by adding more will result in improved performance.

Choose quality over quantity! It’s all about the quality of the movement, not the quantity. Train smart!
