Movie review - The Croods (2013)

The Croods (2013) / animation, comedy, adventure

Direction and Screenplay by Kirk DeMicco and Chris Sanders
Starring: Nicolas Cage, Emma Stone, Ryan Reynolds, Catherine Keener, Clark Duke, Cloris Leachman, Chris Sanders, Randy Thom
Trailer: click.

PLOT
So who are the Croods? Overprotective father Grug (Nicolas Cage), his wife Ugga (Catherine Keener), their three kids: rebel girl Eep (Emma Stone), chubby Thunk (Clark Duke) and little Sandy (Randy Thom), plus Grug's mother-in-law Gran (Cloris Leachman). Family of cavemen living in pre-historic times is just nightmare for curious Eep who wants to go and explore the world. After she is seeking the light's source, she meets a clever boy named Guy (Ryan Reynolds) and he might bring some extra adventure to the family.

REVIEW
After first scenes I was quite indifferent. Another animation with a teen girl who's had enough and wants to escape from her weird family? No, I was wrong. It's not about her but about all family and their characters. Grown up or children can find something to relate to, we all experiance various feeling and questions (how hard is to accept changes, is new really bad, etc.). Another thing I really love was thoughtful humor and animals that interact with the family. Story is simple, to simplify and predictable but also funny, dynamic, nicely animated and after all, with a beautiful message. Really heartwarming, enjoyable movie for whole family. 4/5
