Exercising too much can actually negatively impact your health so it's important to plan time off. You need to understand and allow your muscles to repair and grow. Strength and endurance gains happen during recovery and not in the gym.
You will get back to your workouts with more energy and enthusiasm but of course you don't have to be completely inactive. You can take a walk, do some stretching, etc.
