Emmys 2014 recap

Here are some of mine thoughts on Emmys 2014.

THE SHOW AND THE HOST
Seth Meyers was nothing more but ok. The opening monologue was good but other than that... forced jokes and so many times I had the feeling he is only reading from teleprompter.

The show itself was nothing special and I definitely expected more (e.g. skits, more fun and creativity).

PERFORMANCES
Sara Bareilles performed a version of Nat King Cole‘s classic song Smile as images of those who passed flashed across the screen. Beautiful.

Meanwhile “Weird Al” Yankovic performed a medley of television show theme songs and parodied. Not impressed.


SPEECHES
No one really blew my mind but Bryan Cranston, Aaron Paul and Ty Burrell were my favorite for sure.

Billy Crystal took to the stage to pay touching tribute to his longtime friend Robin Williams. Nice.

WINNERS
Like I've already mentioned, I was so thrilled for Breaking Bad, Bryan, Aaron and the writers. They deserve it! Also Ty and Mondern Family winning the fifth Emmy for outstanding comedy series! Then of course Sherlock, Benedict and Martin! Ok, Matt Bomer was great as well but I can't say I'm not happy for Martin! And seeing The Normal Heart win was a great moment too!


OTHER STUFF
- I liked the intro with tv series mix but I wish there would be more of that (not only nominated tv shows but all kind of shows that we watch).

- I love Sofia Vergara but the skit where she spins and do some modeling poses while Academy of Television Arts & Sciences president Bruce Rosenblum is giving a speech was totally unnecessary and weird.

- I wish Benedict Cumberbatch and Martin Freeman were there.

Popcorn with soul!

PLOT

Will Rodman (James Franco) is a brilliant scientist with a breakthrough drug that just may cure Alzheimer's. He and his team are using chimpanzee's to test this new drug but in the process find out that it increases intelligence as well as repair cells in the brain. One of the test subjects gets loose in an intense sequence and ultimately put down. It turns out that she had just given birth to a beautiful baby chimp Caesar (Andy Serkis) who inherited this new gene. Will decides the only moral thing to do is to take the baby home. He soon realizes that this little chimp has the intelligence of a human child twice it's age. Time passes, Caesar grows and things are getting messier.

REVIEW

Whoever says popcorn flicks can't be good as well, is wrong and this film is one of many who can confirm that! It's not the most original or intelligent story but it is also not cheesy or cheap. Engaging fast paced film, characters with depth and personality and just over all exciting to watch. And what a mesmerizing performance by Andy Serkis! Amazing screen capture, both the body language and facial expressions. CGI is of course a part of that as well. Great job! Another thing I love is that the movie is thought provoking on many levels. The only unnecessary things is relationship between Will and Caroline. There is no chemistry or story. Despite that, definitely worth watching! 4/5

Under the sea

As a blue addict I was so excited about Essence LE Aquatix collection!

I got all three shades I was hoping for: 03 Aquatix bay (the caribbean sand effect), 04 Under the sea (the holo effect) and 06 Under water love (the ocean sand). Because I was very busy and had no time for full manicure (till today) I just swatch them quickly.

It was not hard to decide which one I liked most. That would be Under the sea. Love the grey-silver color and the effect. Easy to apply (only one coat) and very pretty. Meanwhile Under water love seems a bit heavy and dark but I still like it a lot. Aquatix Bay was my least favorite. Too much glitter everywhere and you need to apply at least two coats.
