Movie review - Warm Bodies (2013)

Warm Bodies (2013) / romance, comedy, horror

Directed and Screenplay by Jonathan Levine
Based on Isaac Marion's novel
Starring: Nicholas Hoult, Teresa Palmer, Rob Corddry, Analeigh Tipton, John Malkovich, Dave Franco, Cory Hardrict
Trailer: click.

After a zombie apocalypse, R (Nicholas Hoult) is an unusual zombie who thinks too much and he's sick of his existence. Zomies travel in packs and have two enemies: humans and skeletal zombies who have shed their humanity and are called Bonies. Like others he craves human brains, because with them he is able to feel alive through the memories of their former owners. On the other side we have a leader of the human group, Colonel Grigio  (John Malkovich), who sends his daughter Julie Grigio (Teresa Palmer), her boyfriend Perry Kelvin (Dave Franco) and a group of friends to recover medical supplies from abandoned buildings. There they clash with zombies and romance between R and Julie arises. R feels the girl set a spark in him, while she's not to sure why he didn't kill her. Their relationship progresses but is there any real chance for love amongst a zombie and a human?

After teen Twilight has ruined the images of vampires, here comes a romantic zombie comedy. Yep, that's right. When you start watching it, it's a bit odd. You're not sure if they're serious or is it parody? But when you get use to quirkiness and embrace it, film is an enjoyable ride. Plot is not totally typical and it's nice to see zomie's point of view of the story. R's inner dialogues are funny and charming, both main characters are adorable not cheesy, chemistry is there. I must say, all the actors deserve commendation because they did a wonderful job. Film is sweet, funny but also with some action and horror. Some things could be done even better but many of them could be way worse. I belive many of you're sceptical about the movie but give it a shot (you may be surprised). Definitely something new which is rare these days, where we've a feeling that all has been seen before. And no, it's not Twilight junk. 4-/5

3 Essential Tips for Summer Days

Summer is here and we're facing first heatwave this year. Here are 3 essential tips that you should follow in this crazy hot weather.

1. WEAR SUNSCREEN
I know you've probably heard it a hundred times and it really is that important. Skin is our biggest organ and it flushes away toxins when we perspire and have three main functions: protection, regulation and sensation. So why is wearing sunscreen important? I guess skin cancer, wrinkling, premature aging and sunburn ring a bell.

Wear sunscreen not only on your vacation but every (sunny) day! Sun is shining also when you're walking through the city, in your car etc. Take care of your biggest organ. It need you. The sooner you'll realise that, the better.

PLUS: don't expose yourself to the sun unnecessary. And no, standing in the shade is not enough (wear sunscreen!).

2. HYDRATE
Drink a lot of water through the whole day, minimum 2 liters a day. You know that hydration is related to skin: more water, better skin. Also important: Don't go anywhere without it! Put bottle of water in your purse, refill it and don't forget to take beverage before hitting a road. Imagine that you're driving in your car and get stuck in traffic jam. Now what? Always have something to drink with you!

Mix it up! You can also add fruits (I recommend citrus fruits like limes), veggies (cucumber) or herbs (mint) into water. So refreshing and yummy!

PLUS: avoid sweet, fizzy drinks and too much caffeine.

3. WEAR LIGHT CLOTHES
Cotton clothes are perfect for hot summer days. This fabolous fabric is a naturally grown and known for its numerous advantages: it allows better air circulation (your skin can breathe), it's light in weight, perfect for those who have sensitive skin and it's available in all colours.

PLUS: wear sunglasses and hat/cap.

Last week's favorite looks (June 10 - 16)

It's Wednesday and time for my last week's favorite outfits (June 10th till 16th).

Starting with black and white trend.
Amy Adams looked classy in Nina Ricci black gown at Man of Steel world premiere in New York.

Katherine McPhee attended The Gary Sinise Foundation’s 'Inspiration To Action' benefit dinner in Chicago. I love these outfit because it's elegant yet loose and comfy but with spiked pumps adds even a little bit of edge.

Taylor Swift is sheer white Emilio Pucci gown at 2013 Fragrance Foundation Awards held at Lincoln Center’s Alice Tully Hall in New York City.

Yvonne Strahovski in black and white long sleeve dress at the premiere of the eighth and final season of show Dexter in Los Angeles.

Yvonne Strahovski also on the red carpet at the Max Mara and W Magazine cocktail party in Beverly Hills. I don't love navy blue outfit but I would still say: thumbs up!

Ashley Madekwe in Max Mara dress at the same event. Stunning dress!

Norah O’Donnell was beautiful in green frock while attening Marie Claire’s 'Women taking the lead' luncheon in New York City.

Another gorgeous green dress on Jessica Chastain. She was at the opening ceremony at the 2013 Maui Film Festival in Hawaii. I love this one shoulder Herve L. Leroux fitted dress on her!

Street style trio: simple but chick Alessandra Ambrosio, casual Jessica Biel and LeAnn Rimes in printed pants, dark jeans jacket and sneaker wedges.

Movie review - Identity Thief (2013)

Identity Thief (2013) / comedy, crime

Directed by Seth Gordon
Screenplay by Craig Mazin
Story by Craig Mazin and Jerry Eeten
Starring: Jason Bateman, Melissa McCarthy, Amanda Peet, John Cho, Morris Chestnut, Jon Favreau, Robert Patrick, Genesis Rodriguez, T.I., Eric Stonestreet, Jonathan Banks, Maggie Elizabeth Jones, Mary-Charles Jones
Trailer: click.

Sandy Patterson (Jason Bateman) gets a call from Diana (Melissa McCarthy), a woman claiming that someone just attempted to steal his identity. While the gullible Sandy is relieved that everything is OK, he generauly provides Diana with all information she needs to do just that. Sandy doesn't have a clue of what is going on despite weird thing happening to him. When he's arrested by Detective Reilly (Morris Chestnut) everything starts to make sense. They make a deal that he'll go to Florida, find fake Sandy and bring her to justice. Of course she's not just going to say yes that simply? Or maybe he'll be the one who'll change his mind?

If I had to sum up the movie in a few words it would be: Predictable, raunchy and not funny. It lacks originality and ironically, it's own identity. And if you think this is a comedy where you're going to laugh hard, you're wrong (beside few exceptions here and there). I love wicked comedies like Due Date, Bridesmaids and Horrible Bosses but this one is nothing close. What saves the film are Jason and Melissa (they are great) but that's about it. Movie is also too long, muddled but somehow you get through. But we all know that the point of a movie is not to get through but to have a good time and enjoy in it. That certainly didn't happend during watching Identity Thief. And while we're on the subject of thieves... the thing that's actually being stolen is your precious time. 2+/5
