Movie review - Don Jon (2013)

Don Jon (2013) / romance, comedy

Sttaring: Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Scarlett Johansson, Julianne Moore, Rob Brown, Glenne Headly, Brie Larson, Tony Danza, Jeremy Luke
Trailer: click.

PLOT
Italian American Jon Martello (Gordon-Levitt) only cares for his body, pad, ride, family, church, his boys, his girls and porn. Although he has an active sex life, he simply can't resist pornography. But can that change after he meets Barbara Sugarman (Scarlett Johansson) or even him doesn't realise that he has a problem?

REVIEW
Don Jon is Gordon-Levitt's feature directorial debut and I'm happy to say it: he did a fine confident job! Congrats! He points out and amplifies sex and relationship extremes of both: men's visual obsessions and women's over fantasizing fairy tales romances. And he does that in the honest way, without hollywood sugar-coated words and stereotypical viewpoints. Yet it's believable story and has a message (again without moralizing). It's straightforward and real. Good and bad thing are hidden in characters. They are all just average humans and no one is really likeable. Untypical ending is great but you'll have to see it for yourself (I don't want to give it away). Another sex addiction movie, but this one is lighter in tone most of the time and very watchable. Entertaining refreshing breeze I would definitely recommend you to see. 4/5
