PLOT
I think F. Scott Fitzgerald's 1925 novel The Great Gatsby doesn't need a special introduction because is so well-known and literary classic. It follows the life and times of millionaire Jay Gatsby (Leonardo DiCaprio) and his neighbor Nick (Tobey Maguire), who recounts his encounter with Gatsby at the height of the Roaring Twenties.

REVIEW
I'm going to stop comparing films with books or at least I'm going to try. If I try to think about GG only as a movie that tells a story like every other film, I think it pulls you right in. Cinematography, costumography, sets, visuals and music are amazing and so captivating! The acting is also great, Leonardo was perfect for this complex mysterious role! Carey, Tobey, Joel and rest of the cast did a magnificent job as well. Film possess a lot of symbolism but yet problematical points (is there happily ever after, class consciousness, compulsive materialism and so on). Adaptation of one of the greatest novels ever written it' beautiful, over the top and enjoyable flick but I can't help the feeling there is something missing. I can't point it out but it's there. Visuals were definitely predominating the script. A lot of complaints and mixed reviews came in relation to soundtrack. Jay-Z and especially Lana Del Rey were a nice modern touch to movies classic. Overall film worth watching! 4/5

  1. Good review Arya. The novel will probably forever, and always will be considered unfilmable, no matter how hard this movie tries to make it work.
