Movie review - I Give It a Year (2013)

I Give It a Year (2013) / romantic comedy

Directed and Written by Dan Mazer
Starring: Rose Byrne, Rafe Spall, Anna Faris, Simon Baker, Minnie Driver, Stephen Merchant, Jason Flemyng, Jane Asher, Clare Higgins
Trailer: click.

Nat (Rose Byrne) and Josh (Rafe Spall) got married, despite the fact that they are very different. This is the reason why people around them are sceptical of their relationship. Josh's friend Dan (Stephen Merchant) is full of remarks and Naomi (Minnie Driver), who resign oneself to unhappy marriage, too. While Nat and Josh are trying and work hard to make their marriage succeed, things just don't click. Josh is still in contact with his ex Chloe (Anna Faris) and Nat is intrigued by Guy (Simon Baker) with whom she must cooperate at work. Will Nat and Josh find their happy ending?

Apart from few cool jokes (brit style of humor), some scenes that are more realistic than in typical  romantic comedies and movie's point, there is nothing special about it. We've seen all before but yet it's watchable film. I really like the positive ending and that there is still hope for real love. Yes, differences can attract but on the long term, relationship it's far more challenging and exhausting compare to one, where people just have instinct chemistry. Some people pretend to be satisfied or get satisfied with partner although they miss many things... they try to be happy but they're not. And while they're lying to themselves, sooner or later, they realize that love shouldn't be that hard. I'm not saying, people who have same views, sense of humor etc. have guarantee for happy relationship, but it's more smooth, fun and harmonic for sure. I think we're all fond of and in a way drawn to people who have similar taste, views and interests. 3/5
